Sugar, Fructose, and artificial sweeetners (apartame, asulfame K,
equal, sucralose, splenda) make up a huge part of the SAD (standard

Gluten hiding in your personal care products?
Many patients ask about the hidden sources of gluten in their diet
and food supply, but a commonly missed source of exposure to gluten
is through personal care products.
Personal care products such as shampoo, hairspray, and make up can
have chemicals that get absorbed into your system and if you are
sensitive to gluten, this exposure can have an effect on you.
Do you really need to worry about health and beauty products such
as shampoo and hairspray?  How about mascara and eye shadow?  Do
these products really contain wheat, barley, rye, or oatmeal?
The simple answer is "yes" most cosmetic products do contain some
form of gluten and can cause symptoms, especially for people who
are exquisitely sensitive.  People with gluten intolerance, celiac
disease, and dermititis herpetiformis ARE sensitive to gluten in
their personal care products.
Everything tht is placed on your skin has the potential to enter
your blood stream.  Accidental ingestion can also happen if any
gluten containing ingredients are on your skin, hands, or around
your mouth.  Although you may not eat your eye shadow or mascara,
it does have the potential to get on your hands and then get into
your eyes, mouth and nose.
The Gluten Free RN is a good recourse to find gluten free beauty
products and has formed a list of companies that claim to have
gluten free cosmetic and beauty products.
Please use this list of companies as a resourse guide only for
finding products.  Keep in mind that I have not personally tried
all of these products and that companies change their formulations
frequently, so this resource is a good starting point, but use your
due deligence as you choose health and beauty products for yourself.

It has been a while since I have sent out an article, I would like
to apologize. The reason for the delay is that my family and I just
spent the last three weeks getting moved.  With a family of 6 it
was quite at task, but well worth it when we get to sit on the
patio and watch the kids all playing in the yard. Well worth it.

I was sitting and watching the kids playing tonight and I turned to
Kelly and said "this is why we moved off of the water."  We left
condo life with a beautiful harbor view to give our kids a yard to
play in, a place to run and explore, a chance to be a kid.  So when
Kelly and I are a little sad about losing the beautiful view we
had, we only have to remember our "why" to realize that sometimes
the right decisions are tough decisions.

This brings me to the point of todays article....what is your "why"?

Any time you set a goal, and try to take your life to a new level,
you have to know what your "why" is.

The goal is important, you need to know where you are going, and
what the end result of your actions are.  But to truly stick to
your guns, and make it through the hard times, you need to know why
you are trying to reach your new goal.

And your why needs to be bigger than yourself....what do I mean?

Well, lets take weightloss for example.  Lets say that you set the
goal of losing 20 lbs in 90 days.  You now have your target in mind
so you begin taking action.  Well lets say that about one week into
your program you go out with some friends and the friends are all
eating desert...and you know that you shouldnt have any, but it is
your favorite, chocolate cake.

Here is where the why is important. You have to ask yourself why
you are eating better and wanting to lose weight.  If it is because
you want to be "skinny" or you want to fit into a pair of jeans,
the chances are that you will eat the cake because the pleasure of
eating the cake will outweigh the pain of "the potential" of not
being skinny or not fitting into those jeans.

However, what if your why was bigger than yourself?  What if your
why was to regain your health so that you can be there for your
kids as they grow up.  So you can be a positive role model for

Now, the pain of eating that cake and dissapointing your own
children is more than the pleasure of eating the will

Your why is what keeps you on track when the going gets tough,
whatever the goal is that you are trying to achieve.

So the next goal you set, do not forget your why.

The weather is beautiful, and everyone is starting to stock up for
their summer outdoor supplies...and many parents stock up on hand
sanitizers as a part of their arsenal to fight germs and stay

The truth is that these hand sanitizers may cause more harm than
good....I will get to that in a moment.

I have to take an "I told you so" moment see, my wife
Kelly is very much a "germaphobe" and each time we added new child
to our family, she got more scared.  She is afraid that when one
person gets sick, it goes through everyone.  While I agree that I
worry with and worry about my babies getting sick as well, I didn't
agree with the strategy of using hand sanitizer so much.  I told
her..."you can quote me, they will find out that hand sanitizer
actually increases infections, and superbugs...right along with
antibacterial soaps (another I told you so moment).

So here I go...Kelly, my love of my life...I TOLD YOU SO !!!  :)

Ok, seriously though, new data shows that there is an increased
amount of infections with super bugs and resistant bacterias with
the increased use of hand sanitizers.  Not only that, but a common
ingredient use in these products, called triclosan, is toxic and
has ben linked to infertility, cance, suppressed immune systms, and
other serious problems.

So what is the safest way to wash your hands?  With good ole soap
(not antibacterial) and water.  The real truth is that even the
soap is not necessary, the most important aspect is the water with
the vigorous rubbing together of the hands to remove the bacteria.

If you do find yourself in a situation without water and soap,
occasional use of hand sanitizer may be ok, but use one that is
alcohol based but without triclosan or other chemical
antimicrobials.  Burts bees has one that contains alcohol as well
as some herbal ingredients.

I am sure that unless you have been hiding under a rock you have
heard about Gluten Sensitivity.  The technology is available now to
test patients to see who is and who is not Gluten Sensetive.  Also,
many patients are making the decision to go gluten free even
without testing, all in the attempt to better their health.

I have witnessed a trend in people who have decided to go "gluten
free" that concerns me.  First of all, gluten free is actually more
difficult that you may think to acheive.  Gluten is in many
products that you may not expect, such as your personal care
products (this is the subject of next weeks article).

The alarming trend that I find in patients that decide to go gluten
free is that many of them actually end up gaining weight and with
their lab values changing for the worse.

Why is that?

Well, Gluten free foods are a major trend right now, so
manufacturers are discovering new foods to create that are gluten
free.  There are now gluten free cookies, cake mixes, breads,
waffle mixes, brownie mixes, etc.

Patients will assume that eating gluten free breads etc means that
the breads are healthy and ok to eat.  While in most cases, gluten
free breads are better for the gluten sensitive patient than non
gluten free breads, that does not make it a "good" or "healthy"

The fact is, the patient is still eating bread, still eating cake,
still eating cookies. And many Gluten Free products are higher in
calories than their non Gluten free counterparts, leading to
increase calories and therefore increased weight gain.

So am I saying to forget about it and eat gluten?  No, I am not.  I
agree that these foods can be an improvement in your diet if you
are gluten sensitive.  I am simply saying that you cannot fall in
the trap of eatig these foods in excess.

I feel that we should keep all processed and packaged foods to a
maximum of 20% or your dietary intake.  Fill the rest of your day
with organic fruits, organic vegetables (2:1 vegetables to fruit if
you have blood sugar issues) and whole natural meats.

If you are dealing with a health issue or weight issue, you should
remove all processed foods from your diet to give your bdy a chance
to heal.

Well, here we go again, be prepared to start seeing the news stories
about the new dangerous and lethal bird flu....and the strong push
for everyone to go and get their untested vaccinations. Please read
the following article by Dr. Mercola, I cannot and will not tell
you what decision to make for yourself and your family, but it is
my job to help you make an education decision, instead of a fear

Yep, it's time for yet another pandemic flu drill... "WHO says new
bird strain is "one of most lethal" flu viruses," Reuters1 recently

Every few years, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and related
agencies drum up another flu emergency; each promised to be worse
than the last, and this year you're likely to start hearing a lot
more about "lethal bird flu" again.

What many don't realize is that these agencies actually need these
faux flu emergencies to practice -- to fine-tune their strategies
and test the latest disease surveillance systems.

They also need them to justify their own existence, not to mention
growth and expansion. As noted in a recent article by Medical News

"After the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in the U.S. and the potential
threat of bioterrorism, many new advanced systems for disease
surveillance and notification have been developed and implemented
throughout the world.

The goal of these systems is not only to detect a possible
biological attack, but to characterize emerging pathogens so that a
public health response can be implemented rapidly.

'You can't test these systems on a day-to-day basis,' says...
Michael A. Stoto, PhD... 'The only way to test these systems is how
they perform in a real public health emergency.'

... 'What really made a difference in 2009 was that people from the
US and Mexico talked to each other through a formalized system of
communication,' he says. 'I think taxpayers and policymakers want
to know if the billions invested after 9-11 to prepare for a
biological event is paying off. I think the answer is 'yes.'"

One Profitable Flu Hoax After Another...

So far, these pandemic threats have never been anywhere near as
lethal as predicted. Unfortunately, many are still hopelessly
addicted to fear, so these dramatic warnings will likely continue
to be successful in enabling WHO and CDC health officials to
accumulate more power and control.

Hyping fear of microorganisms has already led to an increase in the
numbers of state vaccine mandates, which are now threatening
people's health and right to get an education or keep a job.

In recent years, we've seen a number of aggressively hyped flu
pandemics that were based more on media spin than on hard science
and never materialized.

While it's prudent to be aware that a pandemic involving a mutated,
lethal microorganism could occur in the future, what we've
repeatedly seen is that the possibility has been massively
over-sold in the past, allowing drug companies to rake in billions
of dollars for fast-tracked, inadequately tested vaccines and other
dangerous and/or ineffective anti-viral drugs.

Sadly, each time a greater number of people tend to end up being
harmed by the drugs and "pandemic" vaccines than actually succumb
to the viral infection.

  • The 2005 bird flu hoax: Headlines warned the U.S. was facing a
    cataclysmic extermination event, with a projected two million
    Americans at risk of potentially succumbing to the bird flu. The
    best case scenario had public health experts warning that the bird
    flu could kill at least 200,000 Americans. Then, as now, constant
    references to the tragic 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic heightened the
    fear factor to a fever pitch, despite the fact that the scientific
    data did not support any of these hyped claims.
  • Of course, 200,000 people in the US did not die from bird flu in
    2005. The number was zero. I even wrote a NY Times best seller book
    on the topic, The Great Bird Flu Hoax.

    At that time, they mysteriously translated the minuscule number of
    deaths of bird handlers that had occurred worldwide into an
    impending extermination-level event from a virus that did not -- and
    still does not -- readily spread from birds to humans, nor between

    bird handlers in continuous contact with sick birds. How anyone in
    their right mind could envision similar circumstances among the
    general population of the United States is a mystery, but it goes
    to show that it's unwise to throw common sense to the wind...

  • Bird flu hoax repeats: In 2006, 2007, and again in 2008, hyped
    warnings over the bird flu were repeatedly exposed as little more
    than a cruel hoax, designed to instill fear and line the
    pocketbooks of industry and various vested individuals.
    • The 2009 swine flu hoax: After four consecutive years of bird flu
      warnings that just refused to come to fruition, the H1N1 swine flu
      became front-page news again. This turned out to be yet another
      faux threat that cost tax payers billions for fast-tracked
      vaccines, which wrought havoc across the world. Ironically, the
      2009 H1N1 "pandemic" actually turned out to be one of the MILDEST
      flu seasons in recent years with a low number of reported
      influenza-related deaths.
  • Meanwhile, the fast-tracked 2009 H1N1 vaccine turned out to be the
    most reactive flu vaccine ever created, harming far more people
    than the virus itself.

    • The dire predictions of 2012: The summer of 2012 was filled with
      dire predictions of bird flu sufficiently mutating to cause a human
      pandemic, immediately followed by urgent calls for fast-tracked
  • New Bird Flu Strain 'One of the Most Lethal' WHO Claims

    If we are to believe recent reports3, a new more easily
    transmittable strain of bird flu has emerged in China, reportedly
    killing 22 people since its discovery in March. According to a
    World Health Organization (WHO) spokesperson, the strain is far
    more lethal than another strain of bird flu that has "killed
    hundreds" since 2003. According to the featured article4:

    "The H7N9 flu has infected 108 people in China since it was first
    detected in March, according to the Geneva-based WHO. Although it
    is not clear exactly how people are being infected, experts say
    they see no evidence so far of the most worrisome scenario --
    sustained transmission between people. An international team of
    scientists led by the WHO and the Chinese government conducted a
    five-day investigation in China, but said they were no closer to
    determining whether the virus might become transmissible between

    ... Another bird flu strain - H5N1 - has killed 30 of the 45 people
    it infected in China between 2003 and 2013, and although the H7N9
    strain in the current outbreak has a lower fatality rate to date,
    Fukuda said: 'This is definitely one of the most lethal influenza
    viruses that we've seen so far.' ... Based on the evidence, 'this
    virus is more easily transmissible from poultry to humans than

    While each death is tragic, flu death statistics can't compare to
    the death toll wrought by pharmaceutical drugs and vaccines. If you
    want to protect your health, at least compare the odds. In
    2009/2010, many who gambled on the fast-tracked pandemic H1N1
    influenza vaccine sacrificed their health and in some cases their
    lives to what at final count turned out to be one of the mildest
    flu seasons in years. An estimated 125,000 people die each year in
    the US from prescription medications taken correctly as prescribed.
    And in just six years (from 2006 to 2013), more than 100 deaths
    were reported after vaccination with the HPV vaccine Gardasil.

    No investigation or remedial action whatsoever has been launched by
    public health authorities in response to these "lethal medicine"
    statistics. Yet, each time a new influenza virus is identified,
    we're supposed to "do the right thing" without asking any questions
    --meaning, "just get your damn vaccine," as so bluntly stated by
    NBC's Dr. Nancy Snyderman during the 2009 swine flu pandemic
    debacle. That wouldn't be such a problematic demand were it not for
    the fact that pandemic flu vaccines are virtually untested in
    adequate clinical trials before they are released to the public,
    and therefore carry unknown risks over and above the "normal" risk
    you take with any vaccination.

    H7N9 Vaccine At Least 6 Weeks Away

    To further feed people's stomach-churning anxiety over potentially
    lethal bird flu viruses proliferating and mutating, current media
    articles warn that the remedy, an H7N9 vaccine, is still several
    weeks away from being developed.

    "If the strain proves to be a candidate for a pandemic outbreak, it
    might be a while before health professionals have a vaccine to
    protect against the strain, according to Joseph Kim, president of
    Inovio, a California-based company that is currently in the initial
    stages of developing an H7N9 vaccine," US News writes5.

    'The fastest we'd be able to have a vaccine to test in animals for
    H7N9 would probably be 4-6 weeks from now,' he says.... Under
    normal circumstances, the path from animal testing to 'small scale
    human tests' to full approval takes another couple months 'in an
    accelerated path,' Kim says.

    But in the case of a pandemic, the animal testing stage is
    sometimes skipped and the vaccine is immediately used to treat
    humans. 'In a pandemic setting, you can potentially grow the
    vaccine and use them without human testing in emergency cases,' Kim
    says." [Emphasis mine]

    And therein lies the rub. Pandemic vaccines are among the most
    high-profit and low-risk business ventures for vaccine makers. They
    stand to make billions of dollars in revenue while being completely
    shielded from liability if the vaccine turns out to be hazardous,
    like it turned out to be in 2009. Not to mention they save a ton of
    money on development, since drug companies can duck under FDA
    standard pre-licensure testing regulations and skip certain types
    of either animal or human testing--or BOTH! It's a triple-win for
    liability free vaccine manufacturers assured of big profits and a
    risky game of Vaccine Roulette for you.

    This macabre situation was created in the U.S. when Congress passed
    the 2006 Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness Act (the PREP
    Act), which is part of the "Bioshield" legislation Big Pharma
    lobbied for and was enacted following 9-11 reportedly to address
    national "biosecurity" concerns. The PREP Act removes your right to
    a trial jury in a civil court unless you can provide clear evidence
    of willful misconduct by the vaccine maker that resulted in death
    or serious physical injury. But first, you must apply for and be
    granted permission to sue by the DHHS Secretary.

    The most problematic aspect of the PREP Act is that it removes all
    financial incentive to make a safe product in the first place. In
    fact, vaccine makers now have a negative incentive to test it for
    safety, because if they are aware of problems, then they could
    potentially be held liable for willful misconduct! As long as they
    can prove they "didn't know" of any problem -- a statement widely
    used during the 2009/2010 season -- they will not be liable for
    damages. Hence it's in their best interest to know as little as
    possible about the adverse reactions it might cause.

    How to Protect Yourself Against the Flu Without Vaccination

    Be prepared to hear more fear mongering about the H7N9 bird flu. In
    the meantime, I'd like to remind you that a healthy immune system
    is your best and primary defense against any viral threat.
    Following these simple guidelines will help you keep your immune
    system in optimal working order so that you're far less likely to
    acquire the infection to begin with. Or, if you do get sick with
    type A or B influenza, you are better prepared to recover without
    serious complications--which by the way will give you a longer
    lasting naturally acquired immunity to the strain of influenza you

  • Optimize Your Gut Flora. This may be the single most important
    strategy you can implement as the bacteria in your gut have
    enormous control of your immune response. The best way to improve
    your beneficial bacteria ratio is to avoid sugars as they will feed
    the pathogenic bacteria. Additionally, processed foods and most
    grains should be limited and replaced with healthy fats like
    coconut oil, avocados, olives, olive oil, butter, eggs and nuts.
    Once you change your diet, then regular use of fermented foods can
    radically optimize the function of your immune response.
  • Optimize your vitamin D levels. As I've previously reported,
    optimizing your vitamin D levels is one of the absolute best
    strategies for avoiding infections of ALL kinds, and vitamin D
    deficiency may actually be the true culprit behind the seasonality
    of the flu - not the flu virus itself. This is probably the single
    most important and least expensive action you can take. Regularly
    monitor your vitamin D levels to confirm your levels are within the
    therapeutic range of 50-70 ng/ml.
  • Ideally, you'll want to get all your vitamin D from sun exposure or
    a safe tanning bed, but you can also take an oral vitamin D3
    supplement. According to the latest review by Carole Baggerly
    (, adults need about 8,000 IU's a day to reach
    a serum level of 40 ng/ml. Be sure to take vitamin K2 if you are
    taking oral vitamin D as it has a powerful synergy and will help
    prevent vitamin D toxicity.

  • Avoid Sugar and Processed Foods. Sugar impairs the quality of your
    immune response almost immediately, and as you likely know, a
    healthy immune system is one of the most important keys to fighting
    off viruses and other illness. It also can decimate your beneficial
    bacteria and feed the pathogenic yeast and viruses. Be aware that
    sugar (typically in the form of high fructose corn syrup) is
    present in foods you may not suspect, like ketchup and fruit juice.
    If you are healthy, then sugar can be consumed but the LAST thing
    you should be eating when you are sick is sugar.

    • Get Plenty of Rest. Just like it becomes harder for you to get
      your daily tasks done if you're tired, if your body is overly
      fatigued it will be harder for it to fight the flu. Be sure to
      check out my article Guide to a Good Night's Sleep for some great
      tips to help you get quality rest.
  • Have Effective Tools to Address Stress. We all face some stress
    every day, but if stress becomes overwhelming then your body will
    be less able to fight off the flu and other illness. If you feel
    that stress is taking a toll on your health, consider using an
    energy psychology tool such as the Emotional Freedom Technique,
    which is remarkably effective in relieving stress associated with
    all kinds of events, from work to family to trauma.
  • Get Regular Exercise. When you exercise, you increase your
    circulation and your blood flow throughout your body. The
    components of your immune system are also better circulated, which
    means your immune system has a better chance of responding to
    infection before it spreads. Be sure to stay hydrated - drink
    plenty of fluids, especially water. However, it would be wise to
    radically reduce the intensity of your workouts while you are sick.
    No Peak Fitness exercises until you are better.
  • Take a High-Quality Source of Animal-Based Omega-3 Fats. Increase
    your intake of healthy and essential fats like the omega-3 found in
    krill oil, which is crucial for maintaining health. It is also
    vitally important to avoid damaged omega-6 oils that are trans fats
    and in processed foods as it will seriously damage your immune
  • Wash Your Hands. Washing your hands will decrease your likelihood
    of spreading a virus to your nose, mouth or other people. Be sure
    you don't use antibacterial soap for this - antibacterial soaps are
    completely unnecessary, and they cause far more harm than good.
    Instead, identify a simple chemical-free soap that you can switch
    your family to.

    • Tried and True Hygiene Measures. In addition to washing your hands
      regularly, cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze. If
      possible, avoid close contact with those, who are sick and, if you
      are sick, avoid close contact with those who are well.

      • Use Natural Immune Boosters. Examples include oil of oregano and
        garlic. Unlike pharmaceutical drugs, these do not appear to lead to
        resistance, so they can be used again and again.

    hospitals are prime breeding grounds for infections of all kinds.

Healing Nature of Apple Cider Vinegar

Good Morning...and Happy Monday,

Did you know that Apple Cider Vinegar has tremendous healing qualities?  Many people think of Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) as being only good for adding tart flavor to salad dressings...however, if that is all you use it for, you are missing out on all that this health remedy has to offer.

As far back as 400 B.C., Hippocrates (known as the father of modern medicine) would prescribe apple cider vinegar for a variety of illnesses.  ACV has shown benefits from weightloss to helping improved insulin levels, ACV is a small addition to your daily diet that can make a big change.

ACV is made by squeezing the liquid from crushed apples and then fermenting it with the addition of bacteria and yeast until the sugars turn to alcohol. Its sour taste comes from the acetic acid and malic acid.  ACV is most commonly used as a food ingredient in salads, sauces, marinades, etc.  However, it does have many medicinal properties

ACV has antibacterial, anti-septic, anti-viral, and anti-fungal properties.  This means that any health challenge that you experience that can be traced back to bacteria, virus, or fungus due to low pH levels can alo be supported with the help of ACV.  Some of these conditions include:  allergies, acne, joint pain, sore throat, candida, sinus infection, ear infections, rashes, digestive issues and stomach ulcers among many others.  As a daily supplement, ACV is preventing and helping with a host of body challenges.

The key when purchasing Apple Cider Vinegar is that you need to get the most unalduterated brand that you can get your hands on.  Raw, unfiltered, unpasteurized and organic apple cidervinegar with have the stronges, live enzymatic action and the most potent healthy bacteria.  The unpasteurized versions will contain the "mother of vinegar", and natural cobweb like sediment floatin at the bottom of the bottle. One good brand that we have found is Bragg hich is inexpensive and long lasting. The recommendation is to take between one and two tablespoons in a glass of lukewarm water before bed, in the morning, or at meal time for best results.

Good Afternoon,

Last week we talked about how "leaky gut syndrome" could be
contributing to seasonal allergies.

Well, there is another challenge that comes from "Leaky Gut
Syndrome"...and that challenge is food allergies.

Question:  Have you personally, or anyone you know ever tried to
lose weight and failed?  If weightloss is simply a matter of
calories in vs. calories out, why do we have such an overweight

Answer:  While it is true, calories in vs. calories out is a major
part of weightloss, there are many other factors that must be
considered. For example, if your thyroid, adrenal glands, liver,
and/or digestive systems are not functioning right, you will never
achieve long term weightloss.  On top of that, Food allergies can
make it difficult to lose weight with calorie restriction and
exercise alone.

Many people find that they cannot lose weight through calorie
restriction alone, when that happens, all of the above issues need
to be investigated, but one of the most important is food
intolerances.  Eating foods to which you are "sensitivie/allergic"
to will prevent weightloss as wel as cause a whole host of other
health problems.

Food Tolerances cause inflamaton, and inflammation prevents
weightloss.  EVery time you eat a food that you are sensitive to
you create an inflammator response in your body.

For may people today, a variety of foods can trigger this
inflammatory response.  This is due largely to intestinal
permeability, or "leaky gut syndrome", which allows undigested food
particles to slip into the blood stream through damaged and
inflammed intestinal walls.  Leaky gut is very common today due to
the poor nutrient status of SAD (the Standard American Diet) which
consists of highly processed foods and excessive sweets.  Combine
SAD with chronic stress and other challenges of modern life and you
have a primed environment for leaky gut syndrome.

As these undigested food particles circulate throughout the body,
your immune system responds by attacking them and destroying them
by producing antibodies designed to attack the specific food
particles.  This is exactly how your body would respond if it was a
virus or a bacteria.  Unfortunately, when the food is eaten
regularly, this keeps the immune system constantly at work, and
leads to chronic inflammation. (As a side note, often these food
particles can be similar to our own tissue, which can then make our
body attack itseft....this is how autoimmune disease can begin.)

The symptoms of chronic inflammation are many, but can include
joint pain, skin issues, abdominal pain, brain fog, memory loss, or
moodiness just to name a few.  Sometimes the inflammation is not
obvious, yet a person finds that he/she cannot lose weight.

Studies have shown that the immune compounds that cause
inflammation also make insulin receptors less sensitive, creating
insulin resistance.  As a result, glucose cannotget into the cells
and blood sugar becomes too high.  The body lowers blood sugar by
converting it to fat for storage.  Insuline resistance also hinders
fat burning.

Inflammation has also been shown to cause leptin resistance, which
stimulates hunger and again promotes fat storage.  Furthermore,
excess body fat secretes immune messenger cells that can trigger
inflammation, causing  a vicious cycle that prevents weightloss.

While caloric restriction and exercise are vital parts of a
weightloss program, for successful long term weightloss you must
tackle inflammation and food sensitivities.

Good Afternoon,

The other day I heard a Mayan Calendar joke... ...

It went something like this:

Mayan guy: "Wanna get a beer?"

Other Mayan Guy: "I'm working on this calendar, but
I guess if I don't finish it won't be the end of the world."

There are a number of reasons why this is funny, but
part of it has to do with the element of truth in not
finishing something important.

One of the big reasons people don't reach their goals
is because they aren't quite sure how to do it.

They get frustrated because it's taking too long or they
can't quite figure it out.

So rather than an end to the world, how about an end
to your frustration?

Yep, you guessed it, weightloss.

In the last two articles we have talked about why the flu rears its ugly head about the same time each year, and what you can do to boost your immune system to fight off the "flu bug" if you do get exposed.  If you have not read those articles, I highly suggest that you do so by checking your past emails, if you cannot find the emails then you can always go to and click on recent articles to read all of these past articles.

So, sometimes, even with all of the attempts to avoid it, you may come down with something.  Maybe the flu, or a cold, or a (insert condition of choice).  What should you do if you do come down with something?

Well, I obvously cannot provide the individual advice needed in a mass email without knowing your present health level and symptoms....that is what office visits to us or your primary doc are for...but I can give you some general pointers.

First and not run for the antibiotics!!!!  I know, I know, I just went against everything that we have all been programmed to believe- BUT- I am sure that you are aware of all of the antibiotic resistant drugs out there, right?  Well, they are there for a reason....because antibiotics have been way overused.

Keep this in mind....most colds and flus are viruses, not bacteria!  Antibiotics do not work on Viruses....only bacteria.  They are used so commonly because we are indoctrinated to believe that if we go to the doc, we need a pill, and most patients are not happy with their doctorif they are told to just go home and rest....everyone wants a pill to fix what ails them.

So what do you do if you get the cold or flu?  Well, I am about to reveal an ancient, well protected secret that has helped human overcome colds and flus for thousands of years.  It is a well kept secret that few know...the majority of the secret holders guessed it- Chiropractors.

Are you ready....what do you do if you get the flu or a cold.....drum roll please....


Ok, sorry for the sarcasm, but seriously.  For the vast majority of you, your immune system is strong enough to overcome the flu.  We are taught in this country that symptoms are bad....I disagree 100%. Sometimes symptoms tell us there is something wrong and needs to be addressed, sometimes symptoms protect the body from further injury (swelling and pain in a sprained joint), and sometimes the symptoms are the healing.  This is usually the case with the cold or flu.  The mucous helps to flush out and protect the air pathways, coughing is used to expel the offender from the lungs, fever is used to destroy the virus or bacteria and remove it from the body, fatigue is for you to sleep so the body can focus all energy on healing, and so on and so on.

We are taught to supress the symptoms with medications and over the counter meds, we are taught that these symptoms are bad and need to be stopped, we are taught wrong!  Rest, let your body work, take your supplements and get adjusted to help your immune system do its job.

That is how you beat the cold or flu.

With that being said.....if you ever get worried or the symptoms last for way too long, call the office and I will either help you understand what is going on with your body or tell you if it is time to go to your primary for medication.  The trick is to use it when it is the right, needed course of action, not just a course of action.  There is a saying...."How long does it take toget over the flu?"  Answer:  "1 Week unless you go to your doctorand get meds, then it will take 7 days!"  :-)

Good Morning,

Why do some people get the flu and others dont?  Is it because of exposure to the virus?  Is it because of the Flu Vaccine?  I hypothesise that it is not...for example, I work in the health care field (around hundreds of people per month, many sick), do not get the flu vaccine, and have not had the flu in the last 20 years (if ever).  I have had colds, yes, but the flu...enough to keep me at home in bed with the aches and  (Knock on wood)

So I know this sounds crazy...I mean how in the world can a human avoid the flu without the Wonderful flu shot?  (can you tell I am not a fan of the flu vaccine?)  Speaking of, while on the subject, I was watching the news last night and I noticed that the "marketing" campaign  for the flu vaccine has begun..."Doctors are expecting a really bad flu season this year...the worse in years" is the message for this year.  I say this tongue and cheek because there is a ton of evidence that shows the flu vaccine to be ineffective and actually damaging to your health.

vaccination is always a personal choice, my choice is that I do not vaccinate myself or my family.  My only wish is that you all make an educated decision and do your own research to make your own decisions.

So what can you do to support your immune system, help your body function, and fight off all of the nasty bugs of winter?

Well, first of all, read my last article and minimize your exposure to the lifestyle challenges that I discussed. Enjoy yourself over the holidays, enjoy the good food (as long as you are not sensitive to the foods) but do so in moderation.  Your body is a miracle and can overcome and handle toxic exposure, it is when it is in excess that your body gets worn down. So suggestion number 1 is to be conscious of your lifestyle choices. Be especially cautious of sugar and alcohol as they will lead to inflammation and acidity in your body.

Suggestion number 2, avoid those who have the flu.  Wash your hands regularly with warm water and vigorous scrubbing.  In my opinion, do not over use sanitizer...just like antibacterial soap, it can lead to antibiotic resistent bacteria as well as skin iritation and other health issues.  As with anything, use in moderation.

Suggestion number 3....stock up on immune supporting your immune system, make it strong and if you do start to feel like you may be coming down with something then dose up on your supplements and give that immune system a boost.  The supplements that we use in my family are whole food supplements designed to support the body...and they work very well...we all use them from myself (42 yrs old) to my youngest son (2 yrs old). If you would like to use the supplements that I use with my family and patients then swing by the office and pick some up.

So what do you do if inspite of all of your efforts you do get sick?  Well, it happens to the best of us (probably to me this year since I announced that I have not had the flu in so many yearls lol!).  If you do get sick, it is not the end of the world.  There is a secret treatment from ancient times that is incredibly effective at treating the flu....and I will share it with you in my next article on keep an eye out.

Good Afternoon,

So we have officially entered the time of year when the "flu season" really kicks in.

Have you ever wondered why the flu kicks it ugly head around the same time of year each year?

Well of course there is the theory of the change in weather causing everyone to have a decrease in immunity and therefore be more susceptible to the virus.

There is value to this theory...but I have another theory that I would like you to entertain, if you would.

First of all, before I go into that, I would like to emphasize the importance of taking steps to reduce exposure as much as possible.  For example, wash your hands (warm water with vigorous scrubbing is the best to remove germs....antibacterial soap is a false sense of security, and creating antibiotic resistant bacteria).  Cover your mouth with the crease of your elbow (not your hand) if you sneeze or cough, and avoid being around people who are sick.  Also...if you start to feel ill, stay home from work, there is no need to expose those around you.

In my next article I will teach you what to do when you do start to feel ill....and how to take steps to be one of those who can be exposed to the "flu bug" and not get sick.

But for now...why do people get the flu?  Why do some people not get the flu?

THe answer:  In all comes down to your immune system, and your body's overall health.

A strong, healthy immune system can overcome the flu viruses quickly when the virus enters your body.  It is when your immune system cannot quickly defeat the flu that you start to experience symptoms.  The symptoms are actually your body's way of defeating the virus, naturally.  I will go over this in detail in seperate article soon

So this article is focused on the to create and environment in your body that a flu virus cannot thrive in.

So with the holidays beginning what do we do?  Well we start it off with wonderful thanksgiving dinner and desserts.  Yummy!  We eat and eat til we cannot eat anymore, filling up on enough sweets to make us swear off eating ever again.

Well, this is just the have now entered the Christmas season...I time of stress, weather changes, and yes...Christmas parties.  Most people will eat more unhealthy food and drink more alcohol during the weeks leading up to Christmas than their body is used to.  On top of that, we have the stress of Christmas shopping and the financial challenges that this creates.

Then..we celebrate...Christmas is finally here...and family is in town (which is not at all stressful- right?).  More celebration!  More food and yes, for most more alcohol and dessert!

Yes, we finally made it through Christmas and our miraculous body is still functioning although rather beat up and "inflammed" at this point from all of the stress, alcohol, and poor eating.  Then....along comes...NEW YEARS EVE!  And again, a whole new attack on our body!

At the end of all of this, the human body is left inflammed, aggitated, stressed, and the immune system is decreased.  When you consider all of this, along with the change in weather...this is where the immune weakness comes from, and why we are so exposed and susceptible to the flu virus.

So how do we enjoy the holidays and still keep our immune system strong?  Great question...that will be teh purpose of our next article...Keep an eye on your inbox, but for now I will give you a hint...pH is a big part of how to protect yourself.

Good Afternoon,

So in our last article we discussed the negative effects that having an acidic pH could have on your health.  If you have not read that article, please look through  your email and read the article, or you can go to my website at and click on "Recent Articles" and read monday's article.

So how do you determine if you have an acidic pH?  The best way to do so is to test your first morning urine output...after 5am. You want to do this for a period of 7 days in a row. Take all of your values and divide by seven.  This will give you your average pH.  The ideal range for your average pH is 6.4-7.0.  Anything below this indicates that you are acidic and your body is suffering from negative side effects, even if you are "feeling" good.

Another thing to consider is that if your pH is too high....or above 7, this can have negative effects as well, it is called severe alkalosis...and this would need to be handled in a completely different way.

So how do you fix a issue if  you find that your pH is out of normal ranges.  The answer to this question is very individualized, but there are some good basic pointers that I could recommend.

We need to know several factors for example are you too acidic or too alkaline?  Do you have any type of an infection (subclinical bacterial, viral, parasitic, dental infection, H. Pylori), are you anemic, food sensitivites, autoimmunity, blood sugar handling issues.

In the neurometabolic field we consider all of the above to be foundational issues that must be addressed if there exists a order to help your body function at its best.  pH testing is a great place to start.....and if we find a problem there, we can explore further.

Once we determine the above factors, we must look at kidneys, liver, adrenals, parathyroid and all of the other functions....then we can determine what your body needs.

As far as good basic steps to are a couple....Number 1, drink plenty of good water (1/2 oz per lb of body weight).  Improve your diet (more veggies, reduce/eliminate junk food, and avoid the white trash food as much as possible....white flour, white sugar, white salt) and supplement with the appropriate nutrients (we use a specific pH protocol in our office which has proven very successful).

In closing, pH is very simple to test, get a box of pH strips and test the first morning urine.  Not saliva, saliva is not as accurate because it has not gone through the body's metabolism.

Test yourself for one to two weeks and average out your findings to determine your pH pattern.

Good Morning,

Do you remember a few years ago when the buzz word in the health
industry was "acidity" and everyone was promoting that you could
heal any disease by getting your body to be more "alkaline" and
everyone was selling super green food drinks to do this?

Boy, I do, it was the "hormone replacement therapy" of its time, in
other words, these Green foods were being promoted as the cure to
all that ails us.

I don't know if you have noticed this or not, but our society
follows the "latest trend" when it comes to health....and many
timew when moving on to the latest trend, some of the old truths
can get forgotten.

I think that this may be the case with acid/akaline balance in our
body.  Now, there is a lot more to balancing your body's pH (the
level of acidity or alkalinity in your body) than just taking a
super green food supplement....but I will get into that later.

So how important is balancing your pH levels?  Well, consider

1.  When you are acidic, your body leaches minerals from your bone
to help buffer your blood.  This is not good...this puts you on the
path to osteopenia and osteoporosis.

2.  Calcium lines the brush border cells of your gut which helps to
protect your body from absorbing toxins into your blood.  This
buffering system protects you from environmental hazards.  When you
are acidic, your body becomes deficient in calcium, magnesium, and
other trace minerals like selenium and zinc.  This leaves your body
more vulnerable to becoming heavy metal toxic and can in turn lead
you on a downward spiral of free radicals.

3.  Many of you are dealing with thyroid conditions...your body's
cells need to be able to accept T3 (the active form of thyroid
hormones that controls metabolism).  Your cells cannot accept T3
without these trace minerals.  If you have a pH that is too low
(too acidic) then your body cannot accept T3 and your energy and
metabolism will suffer...not to mention all of the symptoms of
hypothyroidism such as fatigue, weight gain, brain fog, etc.

4.  Conversion from T4 (inactive thyroid hormone) to T3 (active
thyroid hormone) requires zinc and selenium.  Low levels of these
minerals will hinder the conversion and lead to inactivation of
T3...again leading to hypothyroid symptoms...even if you are on
synthroid, levothyroxine, or armour. (which are T4 replacement

5.  Being acidic provides an environment that is welcoming for
viruse and bacteria to flourish...pH is a huge player in immunity.
If you are susceptible to colds and flu, this is why.

****as a side note...this is a big reason for the "flu season" each
year....which peaks in January and February....we spend from Thanks
giving to the New Year toxifying our body by eating too much
unhealthy and sweet foods along with drinking too much
alcohol...leading to a very acidic body condition...that along with
the changes in weather is quite often too much for our immune
system, leading to our body succumbing to the flu.  (HInt:  it is
not a lack of the flu vaccine!!!!!)

So how do you determine if your body is acidic?  If you are acidic,
what do you do about it?

Good morning everyone,

So in my last article I mentioned that it may not be the best idea
to go straight to the emergency room after a car accident.

Now keep in mind as I write this article that it is your
responsibility to make this judgement call, I obviously cannot
offer any type of medical advice or treatment advice on an injury
that has not happened.  I just want you to be armed so you can make
the best decision possible for yourself.

There are two things to consider under the new law.

The first is that you may only receive follow up treatments for
conditions that were diagnosed in that initial evaluation.  So lets
say for example you are in a car accident and you go to the
emergency room and they diagnose you with an injury to your neck.
You leave the emergency room, go home and as the next few day go
on, your pain and tightness slowly moves down into your shoulder
blades, your low back, and into your right leg (this is a very
common scenario).

Well, here is the challenge, emergency rooms are very busy, they
will check your initial complaint, run a cat scan, check for any
breaks and send you home with a muscle relaxer and instructions to
follow up with your primary doctor.  But, when they write your
diagnosis, they will diagnose only your neck pain...because that is
what you, under the new law, all of these new symptoms
will not be covered because they were not diagnosed in your
original office visit.

The solution for this, is that if you decide you do not need
emergency treatment, come into our office as soon as possible, we
will evaluate your whole body and determine if you did suffer
injuries that you are not experiencing the symptoms for (yes, we
know how to find those hidden injuries) and we can make sure that
you will have the appropriate care in the future.

The second consideration is money....I hate to bring this up but
you need to be prepared...a hospital emergency room visit usually
runs at least $5000...usually a lot more.  It is very common for me
to hear from patients that they ran up a bill of $25,000 plus.  If
you only have $2500 in coverage then you will have no money for
treatment under the new laws.

even over the last few years and feel that you are suffering from

Good Morning Everyone,

There are some very important changes that have been made to your
rights under the new Personal Injury Protection (PIP) laws.  PIP
laws are your personal injury protection laws that come into effect
if you are inovolved in a car accident.

At the end of last week I sent you a general summary of the law
changes, today I want to go into a little more detail about these
law changes.

The first major change is that you only have 14 days to seek
treatment after being involved in a car accident.  Under the old
law there was no official time limit.  This brings up an important
fact:  If you have been involved in a car accident and you are
suffering from chronic pain since, you need to come in for an
evaluation to see if you may still have coverage under the current
law...if you wait past January 1 you risk losing all rights to the
injuries you sustained in that accident.  Call the office today!

So, if you are involved in a car accident, under the new law you
must seek treatment within 14 days.  What does this mean, it means
that you need to see a medical doctor or come into our office
immediately after a car not wait or you risk losing
all benefits...

Yes, you can come into our office to receive your initial
treatment, it does not have to be the emergency room...and in
tomorrows email, I will explain to you why the emergency room may
not be your best option under the new law....Keep an eye on your
inbox for the next article.

When do these laws take effect?  January 1, 2013.

Good Morning Everyone,

The last three articles have been about how and why it is important
for you to get checked in our office for hidden injuries if you
have been in a car accident.  It is also important that anyone in
the vehicle with you (including children) get checked as soon as

The next couple of articles will begin to demonstrate why time is
of the essence.  You see, our wonder Florida government made some
law changes that come into effect on January 1....and severely
limit your rights to coverage.

Read on...This is important!

There are some very important changes that have been made to your
rights under the new pip laws.  PIP laws are your personal injury
protection laws that come into effect if you are inovolved in a car

The best way to explain the changes, and how detrimental they are
is to give you a summary of the way they are now to the way they
will be on January 1 when this law goes into effect:

Old Law: $10,000 in medical benefits available immediately upon

New Law:  $2500 in medical benefits unless you have an "emergency
medical condition" (as of now this term has not been clearly

Old Law:  No time limit to receive initial treatment

New Law:  14 day time limit to receive initial treatment.  If you
do not receive initial treatment in the 14 day window YOU LOSE ALL

Old law:  Follow up treatment covered if "reasonable and necessary"

New Law:  Follow up treatment covered only if referred by a
provider and consistent with treatment received within 14 days of
your accident.  (If your neck is sore and you on day 13 and you go
to receive treatment for your neck pain and receive a neck pain
diagnosis then that is what you can have treated....if your low
back begins to hurt on day 15 then you have no coverage for your
low back pain....ridiculous!!!!)
Old Law:  Massage therapy and accupuncture covered

New Law:  Massage Therapy and accupuncture no longer covered!
When do these laws take effect?  This law takes effect on January
1, 2013.

Hello Everyone,

The last two articles were spent talking about car accidents and the fact that 55% of people who were injured in a car accident would suffer from long term chronic pain.

I would like to continue this article series by discussing the importance of having your children checked if they were in the car with you.

You would not believe how many young adults I treat in my practice who have chronic pain and advanced degeneration in their spines which can be traced back directly to a car accident that happened when they were young children.

You see, when you are involved in a car accident, there is kinetic energy that is created (The energy possessed by a body because of its motion, equal to one half the mass of the body times the square of its speed.) In other words, when two cars collide, their is an energy of motion that is passed from one car to another.

Physics states that in nature, energy follows the path of least resistance. Well, in a vehicle, your body is the path of least resistance, and in your body, your spine is the part of your body that has the most joints with the most ranges of motion. So in other words, not only will your body absorb the brunt of the kinetic energy created, in your body your spine will take the most damage.

This is the mechanism by how we are injured as adults in a car accident. And it doesnt take much speed to be injured.

As you can see by the definition above, there are two factors in kinetic energy. Mass of the object (vehicle) and the speed of the object (vehicle).

What does this mean, if you are hit by an SUV going a low speed it can cause the same amount of injury as a small vehicle that hit you going a higher speed. In fact, there have been studys that show that injuries can be sustained in car accidents that happen at speeds that occur as low as 10 mph.

Now, imagine all of this kinetic energy going through a young child's spine!

In tomorrow article I will discuss why it is of upmost importance to have your children checked after a car accident and I will show you proof of injuries that a child suffered who was having no pain at all. It could change their life!

Hello Everyone,

In yesterday's article we talked about car accidents and how they can cause chronic pain in 55% of all people who have been in an accident.

To continue, what most people don't realize is that fortunately for us, when ever you are involved in a car accident, you can usually receive care at no cost to you. Especially if you were not found at fault for the accident.

Another fact that most people do not realize is that in Florida you have up to 4 years to file a claim for injuries suffered from an accident (these laws will be changing January 1, 2013....we will be discussing this in future articles so keep an eye out.)

Now keep in mind, your insurance company knows that a lot of the symptoms from a car accident injury do not even truly present themselves until as long as 6 months to several years after the accident. You should never settle your bodily injury portion of your claim after a car accident. If you fall for the "we will send you a check for ________" and take their money then you are in turn settling your case and giving up your rights to treatment for the car accident.

This is why it is so critically important that if you or someone you know is involved in an accident, they need to be checked out immediately to see if there are any hidden injuries. This goes for everyone in the car, yes even (and especially) children.

Hello Everyone,

I am going to spend the next several articles discussing injuries
suffered in car accidents.  These articles will be very important
for you and those close to you for two reasons.  Reason number on
will be discussed in a moment.  Reason number two is that on
January 1st your rights and benefits are going to be drastically
effected due to new pro- insurance legislation that has been

I will get into the legislation in a couple of articles, after I
have explained why this information is so important to your health.

The reason that I am doing this is because I have found a shocking
statistic in my practice over the last 9 years.

That statistic is this...the vast majority of patients who come in
to my office with severe degeneration or severe chronic pain (neck
pain, back pain, headaches, pain in the arms and legs, etc...) have
at some point in their lives been in a car accident.

The kicker is that most of these patients did not receive proper
treatment.  In otherwords, they personally felt that the injuries
were not severe enough, so they did not seek treatment, or they
went to the ER and were told nothing was wrong, took some pain
pills and never got treated.

The problem is this, when there is an injury to your body through a
trauma, such as a car accident, your body releases a huge amount of
adrenalin at the time of the accident, so it can be days to months
before symptoms even begin to appear.  The patient thinks they are
fine so do nothing about thier injuries.  Then later when the
symptoms begin to appear and get worse and worse the patinet does
not correlate the symptoms to the accident.

With the adrenalin release in mind, if you do infact feel pain at
the sight of accident, that simple fact significantly increases
your chances of permanent long term symptoms!

When your body starts to heal from the trauma of an accident, if
you are not receiving the proper care to help your body heal
properly, then your body will heal around these injuries and when
you do finally seek treatment months to years later then your case
is much more difficult to resolve because on top of your injury we
are now dealing with scar tissue.

So it is very important that if you or anyone you know has been
involved in a car accident, they need to get checked out
immediately to see if there are any hidden injuries.

The injured person's car insurance will cover your care...usually
to the point that there is no out of pocket expense to the patient.

We will file all of the paperwork and handle everything for you, so
no worries there.  Also, in the state of Florida you have up to 4
years to file a claim after an auto accident.

Let everyone know, if anyone has been in an accident, they need to
get checked out.

Don't take my word for it, here are just some of the statistics
that I came across when doing my research:

    * It is estimated that 15-40% of those who are injured in a
motor vehicle collision will suffer from ongoing chronic
pain.(Journal of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, 2007)

    * Whiplash injuries not only increase the incidence of chronic
neck and shoulder pain, it also significantly increases the
incidence of other systemic ill health effects. In other words,
whiplash injuries cause more than neck pain and headache, it hurts
the health of the entire body.(Journal of Clinical Epidemiology,

    * That essentially 100% of those who are suffering from chronic
pain caused by a whiplash injury will have an abnormal
psychological profile with standard assessments, and the only way
to resolve the abnormal psychological profile was to successfully
treat the chronic spinal pain. Psychotherapy was not able to
improve the abnormal psychological profile, nor was it able to
improve the patient's chronic pain complaint.(Pain, 1997)

    * In the longest study ever performed on whiplash-injured
patients (a study looking at the health status 17 years after
injury), 55% of the patients still suffered from pain caused by the
original trauma.(Accident Analysis and Prevention, 2002)

    * 90% of those who are initially given a cervical collar for
their whiplash injuries will be suffering from chronic neck pain 6
months later.(Spine, 2000)

    * 2% of whiplash-injured patients will have severe pain and
problems that require ongoing medical investigations and drugs 7.5
years after being injured.(Injury, 2005)

    * 1 in every 100 (1%) people on our planet suffer from chronic
neck pain caused by whiplash injury.(Pain, 1994)

    * Statistically, every American can expect to be in a motor
vehicle collision once every ten years.

    * Motor vehicle collisions have been the number one cause of
death of our children for decades.

    * Since 911 (September 11, 2001), about 3,000 Americans have
died as a consequence of terrorism; about 360,000 Americans have
died in motor vehicle crashes.

    * Since the start of the American Revolution in 1775, about a
million Americans have died in our wars. Since Henry Ford
introduced the mass-produced motorcar in 1913, more than 2.5
million Americans have met their deaths on the road.

And millions of Americans who did not die from motor vehicle
collisions were injured.
The Bottom Line...

To understand whiplash injury and treatment, it is most important
to know the answers to these three questions:

    * What tissues are injured in a motor vehicle collision?
    * What tissues are the primary sources for chronic spinal pain?
    * What tissues are primarily affected by the chiropractic

"Astonishingly, the answer to all three questions is the same:

The tissues in and around the spine, including but not limited to
the facet joints and the tissues of the disc joints

Consequently, it is inevitable that some whiplash-injured patients
will develop chronic pain and that chiropractic is often the best

Good Afternoon,

Due to great advertising and misinformation, diet soda's and artificial sweetners (such as splenda/sucralose) are being promoted as health foods and foods that can help you lose weight.

I have made it one of my missions in life to educate as many people as possible to the dangers and lies that are out there about these foods.

In fact, I will say that artificial sweetners and trans fats (polyunsaturated fatty acides) are the major two poisons in our food supplies.

Many people believe that drinking diet sodas, or zero calorie drinks are the key to maintaining a healthy weight.   Unfortunately this is not true.  The following are some interesting facts about the detrimental effects of artificial sweetners and diet soda on your health.

1.  Pop quiz time...what is the largest source of calories in the western diet?  Bread?  Meat?  Dairy?  Nope, the answer may surprise you...but soda is the answer.  I guess it is really not that surprising considering that if you order a medium soda at a fast food restaurant it comes in a 1 gallon contaner!  (Ok, maybe a little exaggeration). In fact, I just saw on the news that NEW YORK is outlawing supersized sodas in restaurants.  Crazy isnt it?

2.  Diet soda may be bad for your kidneys.  A recent 11 year Harvard Medical School Study of over 3000 women found that womeen who drank 2 sodas per day had an two fold increase in kidney function decline

3.  According to a 2008 University of Minnasota study of almost 10,000 adults, even just one diet soday per day is linked to a 34% increase in metabolic syndrome- characterized by increased belly fat and high cholestoral that increases your risk of Heart Disease.

4.  While commonly being advertised as a weightloss product, a University of Texas Health Science Center study found that drinking just 2 or more diet sodas per day increast waistlines by 500%!  Why, because the diet soda tricks the body into thinking that it is eating a sugary food, which makes the body crave more, and at the same time inhibits the body's ability to manage calorie consumption by the sweetness of food.  This leads to consumers of diet products actually consuming more calories, and therefore gaining more weight.

5.  Diet sodas contain sodium benzoate and potassium benzoate, which are mold inhibitors.  These powerful compounds can disrupt your DNA at the cellular level leading to allergies, asthma, hives as well as other allergic conditions.

6.  Diet soda is very acidic, with a ph of 3.2 (as a point of reference, battery acid is a 1 and water is a 7).  This increased acidity can greatly damage the enamel of your teeth. Soda drinkers have far greater tooth decay, more missing teeth, and more fillings according to a University of Michigan analysis of data.

7.  Diet soda or not, soda containers are lined with BPA which is an endocrine disruptor and has been linked to everything from heart disease to obesity to reproductive problems.

In other words, an occasional soda is a treat.  Maybe one or two per week.  However, in my professional opinion, if you are going to drink a soda, drink a regular soda and absolutley do not drink them on a daily basis!

Good Morning,

So what is the biggest threat to your health?  I will get to that in just a moment, but I wanted to take a moment to discuss current events.

I am sure that you read that the Supreme Court upheld ObamaCare last week.  This is going to have a huge effect on your healthcare if it does continue on in its implementation.

If we end up going to a national healthcare system, your health will no longer be in control of the Doctor's that you see, it will be controlled by a beaurocrat sitting in an office in Washington crunching numbers and saying what the Doctors are allowed to do and what they are not allowed to do.

As an example, right now medicare only allows Chiropractors to charge for the Chiropractic adjustment.  They require us to do an examination and all but require the xrays to prove the need for a chiropractic adjustment.  They "allow" as many treatments as are medically necessary.  However, as a Chiropractor it is practically impossible to prove medical necessity beyond 12 visits per year under the medicare guidelines.  In otherwords, they limit what we can do for our patients, and what services we can provide for our patients.

This is the model that this national plan will follow.  On top of that, the reimbursement from medicare makes it so that a physician must see double to triple the patients do to the low reimbursement.

What does this mean for you?  Well, it means less time with your doctor and longer wait times to be seen.  I have heard stories of patients in Canada having to wait 3 months to see a Cardiologist after a heart attack.  3 months after a heart attack!  They will be lucky to live that long!

So you have to take charge of your health now, while you still have it.  You have to improve your health now, while you still can.  You need to make sure that you can be here for those that you care about, to provide for them and to be there emotionally for them.

I had planned on going into the biggest threat for to your health in this article, however, I have already been a little long winded.  Sorry for that, I just feel it is important to understand that your health is your responsibility...not the government's, not your insurance company, not even McDonalds for making you eat fatty foods, it is all your responsibility.  Every day you make choices that effect your health either positively or negatively.  It is the accumilation of these choices that affect the quality of your is the accumilation of these choices that is the cause of your current state of health...whether good or has all been up to you!

Good Afternoon,

In our last article we talked about our mission with this practice and the three keys that we feel are important in good care to our patients.

Today I want to talk about why it is so important to follow the 14 keys to maximizing energy and minimizing stress.

The truth is, the way that we do things in our society is not working.

Here are a few stats to prove it:

21% of all Americans age 18-65 are on 3 or more meds
11% of all Americans age 18-65 are on 5 or more meds
52% of ALL WOMEN are on at least one medication
25% of all Children are on at least 1 medication
90% of all seniors are on at least 1 medication
65% of all seniors are on at least 3 medications
37% of all seniors are on at least 5 medications

According to the world health organization we make up only 5% of the worlds population and yet we consume 47% of all medicationused world wide, and we are actually ranked 50th in the world in overall health!

France is rated number 1 and we actually spend 4 times more on health care.

Now here is the kicker...with all of this money being spent and all of these medications being consumed, you would think that we were getting somewhere with the fight against disease, right?  Wrong...can any of you name one disease that has been irradicated by medicine since 1960?

So what is the answer?  Well, in my opinion we do not need better medicines, we need better Doctors!  We need doctors that are manage the whole person, not just the part of the person that is having symptoms....we need Doctors that go after the cause!

That is what we strive to do here in the office, we use objective measurements that evaluate you as a whole person, everything from detailed comprehensive neurological exams, surface emg and electromyography tests, blood work, saliva testing, stool testing, urine testing, hair other words, we dont guess, we test!

Good Afternoon,

I have been putting together information for a new report/book that I am writing and I have compiled some very surprising data that I want to share with you.

Did you know:

The average person lives to be 78 years of age in America, this comes out to be 4,056 weeks

How much longer do you have?  Take you age and subtract it from 78.  Once you have that number, multiply it by 52.  That is how many weeks you have left to live.

So for myself for example, I am 41 years old so I would subtract 41 from 78 to get 37years.  Multiply 37 years by 52 weeks in a year and I have 1924 weeks left to live.

Man, that gives me a little more sense of urgency about enjoying life!

How about you, what is your number?  Does that give you a different perspective on the value of time?

Well, here is the and God are the ones that control that number! How do you control that number?

By the thoughts you hold in your mind, by the words you speak, and by the actions you take.  And you control all three of those.

Your decisions, words, thoughts and actions either lengthen this number or shorten this number.

Think about this....every thought, decision, and word you have controlled over the last 20 years have gotten you to this point.  What is your life going to look like 20 years from now?

Well, that is why we are here in our help you increase your number and help your next 20 years be better than your last 20 years!

Good Afternoon Everyone,

Everyone always says that we Chiropractors are crazy because we
keep on saying that it is not safe to change the body's normal
functions through medication, whether over the counter or

Here is a recent study from the University of Copenhagen that you
may find interesting:

"Birth control pills are already known to rais women's risk of
developing serious blood clots, but nonoral hormonal contraceptives
such as patches and vaginal rings carry an even greater risk.

Researchers analyzed data from more than 1.6 million healthy women
and found that those who took the pill had triple the clot risk
than those who used no hormonal birth control.  But women who used
skin patches had a whopping eight times the risk, while those who
used vaginal rings had a 6.5 increased risk."

Again, this was according to a University of Copenhagen study.

Dr. Price's comments:

We all know the dangers of using hormonal birth control.  Over the
last couple of years we have become aware of the increased cancer
risks of hormone replacement therapies.  Well be warned, the new
"trend" is bioidenticla hormone replacement therapy.

This therapy is very popular right now...but I truly believe,
again, that not addressing the cause of the problem in the body,
and using external sources to treat the symptom will cause more
imbalance and greater dysfunction in the body for those who utilize
this therapy long term.  It may take 10 - 20 years for the medical
establishment to "discover" these dangers, but it will happen.

What is the better option?  To get tested, see where your body is
malfunctioning, and treat the body neurologically and metabolically
to restore function...then let the body function on its own.  This
is true healing...not merely the treatmentof symptoms.
